Camping at the beach

Last update: 11 January 2021

Finding holidays for the whole family can be very exhausting, especially when you have children of different ages. However, if you are thinking of going on a beach holiday, with camping you will not go wrong. In addition, apart from being on the beach, there are campsites designed so that all members of the family can enjoy their holidays. Campsites with swimming pools and slides for the little ones, with activities and sports for teenagers and with shows and a variety of restaurants for parents. Today we want to help you choose the best beach camping for your family. Thereore, we have selected the 3 best beach campsites in Catalonia.

3. Camping Cala Canyelles

This campsite is located between the villages of Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar, on the Costa Brava. It is a wild and natural campsite, surrounded by nature. It stands out for its impressive sea views. The beach "Cala Canyelles" is only 200 metres away. It is true that it is a very large campsite and that it is located on a slope, but you can hop on its little train that runs along the main street of the campsite to get you to the beach, and it is free!

As for the cove, it is one of the most prestigious in the south of the Costa Brava thanks to the cleanliness of its turquoise waters and the large number of fish and mollusks that live there. Without a doubt, it is one of the best places to snorkelling and scuba diving.

This campsite is perfect if you come with older children, since the little ones can get tired if they have to walk up the slope. In addition, the campsite has a wide range of activities and sports such as kayaking, hiking, snorkelling, cycling routes and many more.

2. Camping Caballo de Mar

Camping Senia Caballo de Mar is located in Pineda de Mar, right on the the beach! It is without a doubt the perfect beach campsite to go with young children, as both the swimming pools and the beach seem to be made for them. On the one hand, the beach is very flat and shallow, which means that they can go safely in the water for a few metres. As for the water area, they have everything: water slides, themed pools with water jets, and since 2020 a whole new splash water area for young children with a giant whale!

It also has all kinds of accommodations and pitches: luxury bungalows, on the beach or near the swimming pools, front line camping pitches for tents or caravans... Although what fascinates us most about this campsite are its glampings, some gigantic and luxurious tents located on the beach area. Inside, they are all made of wood and do not lack any details. There are different types but if we had to choose one, we would go with the Loft Glamping, the only one with two floors. The lower floor has a kitchen, living room, bathroom and a bedroom for children. Upstairs is the parents' bedroom with a double bed.

We must also talk about the number of activities there are for the little ones and the grown-ups, especially in high season and on weekends: Mini-club, mini disco, live shows, sports...

1. Camping Cala Gogo

It is undoubtedly one of the best campsites on the Costa Brava, a macro-resort located between Playa de Aro and Sant Antoni de Calonge with direct access to the beach. The beach is very beautiful, it is barely 300 metres long but its rocks, turquoise waters and the beauty of its landscape make it very special. Although the younger ones might not even want to go down the beach this much, since the campsite has 6 swimming pools including children's pools, and 5 water slides. A whole water park without leaving the campsite.

The campsite is very large, therefore, it is important to know how to choose the location and the accommodation that best suits the holidays that you and your family are looking for. We can divide the campsite in three areas:

  • Beach area: The accommodations there are the closest to the beach, some are even touching the sand (Ona and Ona Top Bungalows). If you plan to spend most of your time on the beach this is the right place. Most of the accommodations have very nice views over the sea and the beach, and the terraces are very spacious. Also in this area you will find  the Beach Restaurant, where you can enjoy typical Mediterranean food: rice, fish, seafood, paella... In addition, it hosts concerts and live shows every summer night.

  • Pool area: Perhaps it is the perfect area of the campsite to come with small children, as here are most of the swimming pools, the Mini-Club, the slides and most of the entertainment activities. In this area there is also a restaurant where you can try all sorts of international dishes such as pizzas, hamburgers, salads... In this area there are several types of accommodation but we highlight the Mobile Home Croma, which in addition of being two minutes from the pools, is located in a private area with a playground, where no cars enter, so children can play safely. All these accommodations have Smart TV connected to the internet.

  • Top and peaceful area: This is the Chill Out area, where the accommodations are further apart and there is greater privacy. Furthermore, in this area all the accommodations have panoramic views over the sea. Perhaps this area is a better option for a holiday with older children who can go to the swimming pools or the beach by themselves. In this area we have the Chill Out pool with Jacuzzi at the Chill Out grill restaurant.

Anyway, at the campsite they have what they call "La Gua Gua", a cute small yellow train that runs the campsite from the pool area to the beach and vice versa, completely free for the customers. So wherever you decide to camp or house, you will never be very far from anything.
