Rupit

Rupit is one of the most charming villages in Catalonia, a place where its streets and stone houses take you back to a time long gone by. Rupit is one of those towns where time seems to have stopped, because it maintains most of his genuine streets and houses. However, and although it may seem surprising, Rupit not only owes its prestige to the history of its streets, here you will find one of the greatest natural richness in Catalonia.

Family Tourism

Rupit is a charming village and it is ideal whether you come with family, friends or as a couple. Although we should mention that many of the popular activities in the area are designed to enjoy a family getaway in the mountains:

Handicrafts: In the town you can discover several small shops where you can find surprising handicrafts from the area.
Hiking routes: From the villages there are several circular routes that run through Rupit’s surroundings . Most of the routes are simple and easy, they can be done with young children. Among others is the Salt de Sallent Route.
Enjoy the river: The waters of the Rupit stream run through the centre of the village, which forms natural ideal spots which in summer are ideal for a refreshing swim.
Gastronomy: If you are a food lover, Rupit is your place to be. Here you will find all kinds of drinks and traditional Catalan food such as fuets, ratafía, bread, sausage etc.

Cultural Tourism

In Rupit you can feel past times, a time that is reflected in each of its monuments, most of them remain still in perfect condition. If you have the opportunity, we advise you to visit each of these spots:

Church of San Miguel: This is a Romanesque building dating from the 13th century. However, in the 16th century the Baroque style church was built with some neoclassical elements. The church is located in the centre of the village.
Streets of Rupit: As we have mentioned previously, when you walk through Rupit it is as if you were walking through the 16th century. Its houses, streets and alleys are kept as they were. Without a doubt, it is a magical place that you must visit if you have the opportunity
Hermitage of Santa Magdalena: It is located on the outskirts of the village, on a rocky hill and from where the entire village can be seen. The construction did start in 1660 although it is a mystery, as there’s no more news about it since then.

Kayak: Yes, although Rupit is an inland village, here we also have water, specifically the Sau Swamp. Here you can kayak through the flooded streets of an old town.
