o Tossa Castle

Camping Sènia Cala Canyelles is located very close to Tossa de Mar. You have to take this opportunity to visit this charming village, in particular to discover the Castle of Tossa.

The castle, declared a National Historic and Artistic Monument, is located on top of an imposing cliff, next to the sea. In addition, high walls surround the Vila Villa, creating a sensation in which it seems that time has stood still. Both the castle and the walls date from the XII to XIV centuries. It is the only fortified medieval town still standing on the Catalan coast.

From the top of the castle you can contemplate some of the best views of the Costa Brava: on one side Vila Vella and on the other the sea and the coastline of the Costa Brava.

o Castle of Plaja

The Castle of Santa Maria, better known as Castle d'en Plaja, is an emblem of the town of Lloret de Mar. It is located on the beachfront, and its towers stand out against the blue of the sky and Mediterranean sea.

Anyone would think that this castle dates back to the middle Ages, and suffered attacks from invaders, remaining strong to defend the town. Make no mistake, this role was played by another castle named Sant Joan, also in Lloret.

Also the Castillo d'en Plaja is much more recent: its construction began in 1935, and ended in the 1940s, after the Civil War. The neo-Gothic style was designed by the architect Isidor Bosch i Bataller, for the businessman Narcís Plaja Martí. It is a private property that cannot be visited, but it can be admired and photographed from outside.

It is interesting to see how it blends in to its surroundings, thanks to the materials used and stones extracted directly from the ground. If you want to get closer, you can follow the Camino de Ronda to pass next to its walls and enjoy the sea views and a pleasant path.
